Go to The General website via the link at the top of this page to obtain a free car insurance quote. The entire process takes approximately 5-10 minutes, quotes can be saved and finished at a later time as well. You can also receive a free rate by calling 1-866-519-7422, or by visiting a local agent and discussing your options in person. The guide below details how to use the online rate tool.

How to Get a Quote

Step 1 – Enter www.thegeneral.com into your web browser’s URL bar. After the homepage is loaded, click the ‘Get a Quote’ button.

Note: You can also use the form on the homepage.

Step 2 – Select ‘Auto’ from the drop-down list, and then enter your ZIP/postal code and press ‘Go.’

Step 3 – The three-step form will load. From the drop-down lists, select the year of your vehicle, make, model, submodel, ownership type, useage, annual mileage, and type of parking. Click ‘Continue’ to move on to the ‘Policy & Driver’ section.

Note: The General uses a third-party service (everquote.com).

Step 4 – Enter your first and last name, gender, marital status, and date of birth. Select whether or not you have a valid U.S. driver’s license, and then enter the age that you were first licensed, your credit level, highest level of education, and current occupation. Press ‘Continue.’

Step 5 – In the next section you will enter auto coverage details (desired level of protection, current insurer, etc.), and your contact details (street address, phone number, email). Press ‘View My Quote’ at the bottom of the form to view your customized rate details.
